tourist tax Croatia

Croatia is a popular destination for tourists from all over the world. To ensure a smooth and hassle-free stay, it is important to follow local rules and regulations, including the requirement for tourist registration and the payment of the tourist tax.

Tourist Registration Requirement

Every tourist must register at the local tourist office and pay the tourist tax. Tourist registration is not related to Croatia's entry into the EU but is a legal obligation for all visitors. Tourist registration is usually carried out by hotel receptions, or by the landlords of accommodation facilities and guesthouses. Tourists who are staying with friends or own a property must register themselves or arrange it with the accommodation owner.

Tourist Tax (Residence Tax)

The tourist tax is paid according to the number of days spent in Croatia and also applies to boat owners who have their vessels moored in a harbor and sleep on them, as well as to all persons who sleep on these vessels.

Exemptions from Paying the Tourist Tax

- Children under 12 years
- Persons with a physical disability of 70% or more + one assistant

- Owners of a recreational property if it is an old family home inherited from a person who had their last permanent residence in the tourist town or community, provided they stay in that property

The tourist tax is paid for each night spent.
